The sunny weather from last July is not longer seen in August and next week is forcasted to be a rainy week. Therefore, and on advice of our neighbour Renaat, our "Exempla" potatoes were harvested today. It was feared that the rain following a long dry period would cause the tubers to make shoots, more or less like in the spring. No risk was taken and the harvest was excellent, about 100 kilogram from 1 kilogram planted potatoes. A multiplication of 100 seems very good to me. All this was realised on 15 square meter garden surface what calculates to about 60.000 kg/hectar.
The early poatoes only produced half as much, so on average a yield was obtained of 50 tons per hectar.
All this is for a large part the result of extensive fertilisation with manure from Roger's small farm in Destelbergen.
