Apple picking season 2010 is well underway

This year is a fantastic year for the apple trees. The harvest is very generous and despite massive insect damage, there are plenty of tasteful apples. The crop is chemically pure and free of pesticides. This year the trees are much less infected by fungi, probably as a consequence of the severe winter. Insects, however, are still around in high numbers and wasps make severe damage only after one prick in the apple's skin.

All possible means are used to put the apples to good use: an announcement at our door, announcements on the web sites of Kapaza and  the local village. The family, friends and neighbours are treated well.
A last action is drying the fruit. The apples are pealed, sliced and placed on screens over the openings of our air-driven heating system. After 24 hours the semi-dried slices are collected and further dried on sticks as can be seen on the photos below.

The photos are from 2008, but 2010 was an even more productive year.
